Home Brew: Zone Mortalis Part 2

Welcome back! I hope that you liked Zone Mortalis and are ready to go 3D!

First off you will need these tools:
1) A pen or pencil
2) A black Marker
3) A ruler
4) A razor knife or scissors
5) A pile of cardboard (I used comic book protector sheets)
6) A hot glue gun and glue sticks
7) Black spray paint
8) Grey spray paint
9) All the stuff from Home Brew: Zone Mortalis Part 1

For every Alpha Zone Tile you will need to cut...
x1 12" x 12" base plate
x2 3" x 2" end wall pieces
x2 8" x 3" inside wall pieces
x2 10" x 3" outside wall pieces
x1 8" x 2" roof piece
x1 10" x 2" roof piece

Spray the base piece Black, if you leave some small gaps it will let the cardboard's natural brown show threw and make the tile look gritty. Then spray the other pieces Grey, Do two light layers as this will make it look as worn concrete or plas-steel.

I start by gluing one 3" x 2" Piece 2" from one corner edge. Then Glue a 8" x 3" straight back from the inside edge of the end piece, do a right angle turn and glue in the next 8" x 3" piece then glue in the other 3" x 2" end piece. Next glue in the first 10" x 3" piece and add the other 10" x 3" piece and let dry. Once its dry Glue on the roof!

For every Beta Zone Tile you will need to cut...
x1 12" x 12" base plate
x4 3" x 2" end wall pieces
x4 6" x 3" wall pieces
x3 4'' x 3'' wall pieces
x1 8'' x 3'' wall piece
x4 4'' x 2'' roof pieces
x1 8'' x 2'' roof piece

Spray the base piece Black, if you leave some small gaps it will let the cardboard's natural brown show threw and make the tile look gritty. Then spray the other pieces Grey, Do two light layers as this will make it look as worn concrete or plas-steel.

I start with the 3" x 2" end piece again 2'' from a corner, then add another on the the inside edge. Add a 6'' x 3'' at a left angle. Off of there take the 8'' x 3'' and glue it at a right angle. Take another right angle and add a 6'' x 3'' piece. Take a 3'' x 2'' piece and glue it down at a left angle from there. Add the last 3'' x 2'' piece as the other wall end. Glue a 4'' x 3'' at a right angle from this end piece, take yet another right angle and add a 6'' x 3''. Take a left angle and glue in a 4'' x 3'' piece, a left from there add the last 6'' x 3'' piece. Add the last 4'' x 3'' piece at a left angle to your starting point piece and let dry. Once its dry Glue on the roof!

For every Delta Zone Tile you will need to cut...
x1 12" x 12" base plate
x16 3'' x 2'' end wall pieces
x8 4'' x 3'' wall pieces
x4 4" x 2'' roof pieces
x4 2'' x 2'' roof pieces

Spray the base piece Black, if you leave some small gaps it will let the cardboard's natural brown show threw and make the tile look gritty. Then spray the other pieces Grey, Do two light layers as this will make it look as worn concrete or plas-steel.

Do this step in each corner...

Glue in one 3" x 2" end piece 2'' from the corner, then add a 4'' x 3'' at a right angle from the inside edge, add another 4'' x 3'' at a right angle to come back to the edge of the tile. Add a 3'' x 2'' on the edge and from there on a right angle add another 3'' x 2'' piece, add a 3'' x 2'' piece at a left angle to your starting point piece and let dry. Once its dry Glue on the roof!

For every Gamma Zone Tile you will need to cut...
x1 12" x 12" base plate
x10 3'' x 2'' end wall piece
x4 4'' x 3'' wall piece
x2 12'' x 3'' wall piece
x2 4" x 2'' roof piece
x2 2'' x 2'' roof piece
x1 12'' x 2'' roof piece

Spray the base piece Black, if you leave some small gaps it will let the cardboard's natural brown show threw and make the tile look gritty. Then spray the other pieces Grey, Do two light layers as this will make it look as worn concrete or plas-steel.

Do this step in two corners...

Two inches from the other end add a 3'' x 2'' end piece, then on a right angle add a 12'' x 3'' wall piece. On the other edge add a 3'' x 2'' end piece, take a right angle and add the other 12'' x 3'' wall piece. once dry add the roof!!

I hope that these are easy to follow with the pictures and directions. I have a few ideas for how to decorate the tiles and to make doors (I use Space Hulk doors.). But that's for another post!

So till next time, For the Allfather, for Russ, and for Fenris!!

Dark Vengeance

Well here is or new box set! Just want to point out that this was my guess on what was going to happen when I did my first read through the 6th edition book and here is where I said my thoughts!
http://blog.spikeybits.com/2012/07/new-plastic-chaos-dreadnought-picture.html
Woot, feels nice to be right! Here is what I said...

''They talk about a battle in the time line that's new on page 176 called Dark Vengeance. Its the only thing in the time line that sounds like new fluff to me. The Crimson Slaughter Chaos marines talked about there also have a picture of there colors on page 299."

My first thoughts are "that looks like a good hand full of dudes!" until you see the 20 guardsmen on the Chaos side. I also am not to fond of the Dark box. Should have used the 6th edition book cover like Assault on Black Reach.

The Dark Angels look great, but that's also a down side. As a astute Son of Russ I will not be to keen on this box. But as a friend pointed out when we talked about our thoughts on the new set that (as a FLGS owner) he wanted them to be very Dark Angel's like with lots of DA detail so that the box wouldn't draw as much business away from the Tactical box as AoBR did on ebay. The only model in the above picture that I dislike is the "Company Master with Power Sword". He has on way to many robes and I think it takes away from the look of a Space Marine HQ.

The first thing I saw when I looked at the Terminators is that the head's don't fit into the chests well. The cheeks over-lap the crown of the back piece. Also the Crux Terminatus looks to small. I like the addition of the Purity Seals and the studs, But other than the assault cannon I like the AoBR Terminators better. The Bikes are Super!

When I saw these bad boys My Jaw dropped! They Look Great! If you use Chaos Lords here is a group of men that could all be used as a nice HQ with a few weapon set variants. The "Helbrute" Looks cool even if we don't know what it is. I saw a neat rule to give a chaos dread on page 38, its called "It will not die". The coolest thing about these traitors is the helmet horns!

These  heretics look cool even if they repeat a few poses. My brother says there is no option to give a guard unit a Heavy Stubber so... (I don't own the Guard book) if its true then hopefully the chaos book will have real cultists again!

"Fenris Breeds Hero's Like A Bar Breeds Drunks - Loud, Proud And Spoiling For A Fight."
-Grand Master Belial of the Dark Angels

Next up we will have Home Brew: Zone Mortalis Part 2! Well that's all for now, so till the next time For the Allfather, for Russ, and for Fenris!!

Home Brew: Zone Mortalis Part 1

Hello again and here is my easy steps for a cheap Zone Mortalis set. Don't know what Zone is? Head over to Forge World and take a peak!
http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Warhammer_40,000_Terrain/REALM-OF-BATTLE-ZONE-MORTALIS-SET.html

Here is the rules PDF http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/Z/zonemortalis.pdf

In a nut shell its a new way to play Warhammer 40k in the close quarters combat environment of the interior of say a Hive city or a Space Hulk.

First off you will need these tools:
1) A pen or pencil
2) A black Marker
3) A ruler
4) A razor knife
5) A 1 foot square tile
6) A pile of cardboard

When you get all that use the tile to trace at least 9 (for a 3' x 3' board) cardboard tiles and cut them out. Then take your ruler and make lines across the tiles every 2" inch's so you have a grid of 2" squares. When you have all your tiles lined out trace with the marker the zone tiles you would like to have. For the 3' x 3' I would say Two sets of the four styles and one more of your favorite style.

After that grab a friend and play away!

On a note these rules were made for 5th edition. This is how I tweak them for 6th.

Reaction Fire: If you pass the initiative test use the Reaction Fire rules, if you fail use the Overwatch rules.

Charging: You may charge units you can not see but it is a Disordered Charge (page 27 in the 6th Edition rule book.)

In part two I will show you how I made it 3d! For the Allfather, for Russ, and for Fenris!!

Hey, and welcome to my blog. I am a fan of miniature war games, but mainly play Warhammer 40,000. I have played since the 2nd edition of the game and have ran with the Wolves of Russ from the start. I enjoy all the aspects of the game and have played and placed in a few FLGs Tournament's. I will bring to this blog a few of my Ideas on all the great things that make up or great hobby.

I will be posting a few thoughts on the new Edition of the game as well as how to make a easy and cheaper version of Zone Mortalis in the coming week! For the Allfather, for Russ, and for Fenris!!
